Paulton’s Labour Councillors, John Bull and Liz Hardman, have been busy following up local highway problems.

On Park Road by the Wesley Hall, the road surface by a drain cover is soft and subsiding, leading to the possibility that there may be a complete collapse, as has happened once before.

Cllr Hardman said: “We have contacted Highways officers who are taking the possibility seriously and have put the repair next on their list for action.”

On the Fieldways (Barrett) estate, the footpath which enters the estate from Church Street has now been provided with a barrier, since at that point there is no footway on Church Street itself.

Cllr Bull commented: “Residents have pointed out to us that there was a danger that children might run out on to the road at this point. We contacted highways and we are pleased that they have quickly erected a safety barrier at the junction.”

The Councillors have also visited the roads on the Fieldways estate, where there have been reports of dangerous parking on bends and junctions, and have discussed with Highways ways to prevent this. Measures will also be taken to stop vehicles illegally driving on to pedestrian paths on the estate from the Red Lion car park.

In addition, John and Liz have contacted Highways about the appalling state of the road surface on Ham Lane and Brittens Hill, and received assurances that repairs will be carried out very shortly.
