Paulton Rovers Res 5 Haydon Sports 1
It was the first game in six weeks for Paulton Reserves who welcomed Haydon Sports to The FIRST 4 POOLS Stadium in the Third Round of the Intermediate Cup.
With a near fully fit squad to choose from, Paulton started the half brightly, stringing pass after pass together, moving the ball quickly trying to penetrate the Haydon defence.
Move after move, the Reserves were always on the front foot, looking for that counter attack with Jack Seymour and Callum Carter at the heart of it. Finally the deadlock was broken from a corner, when the ball fell to the feet of Curtis Taylor, who rifled it in off the crossbar.
Haydon went looking for an equaliser but couldn’t break down the Rovers defence. Paulton then doubled the lead midway through the half, when Tyler Lane capitalised on a error from the Haydon keeper to make it 2–0. Immediately from the restart, it was soon 3–0 after a cross from Seymour found the rising Lane who headed it past the keeper.
With Paulton looking to finish off the game, they made it 4–0 on the stroke of half-time when Jack Seymour ran through the Sports defence, cutting the ball back to Carter whose low shot crept into the net. HT 4–0.
Paulton Reserves started the second half looking to put the game beyond the visitors, breaking down the wings with runs coming from Dan Haines and Josh Ayres.
Changes were made from both sides and that brought Haydon back into the game, when they pulled a goal back after a mix-up in the Rovers midfield.
Paulton were always looking like they were in control of the game throughout and finally put the game to bed when the visiting keeper could only parry a cross from the left which fell to the feet of substitute, Harrison Rogers, who scored his first goal for the club. FT 5–1.
