A CHURCH in Peasedown St John has launched a brand new initiative to support those in need around the local community.
St John’s Anglican Church, which is part of the wider St J’s Group benefice, has launched the Good Neighbour Network, a volunteer led programme with aims to provide support in both a practical and spiritual sense.
They were inspired by the work of other churches across the UK, and look to use this network to practice biblical teachings around showing care and support for others.
Support can be carried out in a variety of ways. If someone needs emotional support, help around the house or even just a meal, they could be connected with someone at the church who can provide the support necessary.
Revd Andrew Avramenko, associate priest, said: "The Good Neighbour Network is all about the St J's Group showing God's love in action by helping people in our community.
“If someone needs prayer, practical help around the house, emotional support, or even a meal or a lift, we connect them with people in our church who can lend a hand. We're here to make a real difference, one act of kindness at a time.
"We're hoping that people will sign up for our weekly email/newsletter to see what help is being requested that they can assist with. We’ll then put the two in contact to not only make a practical difference,
“But to let people know that they are seen and cared for by others in the community.”
Such initiatives are quite popular with Anglican churches. Data from the Church of England suggests that more than 13,100 social action projects are run by Anglican churches nationwide, with roughly 80 per cent of these churches across England being involved in one way or another.
