A popular community hall in Peasedown St John has just undergone a phase of enhancements, thanks to the local Parish Council.

Beacon Hall, which was built in 1995 following the

efforts of the former Community Association, is now leased to the Parish Council by B&NES.

Since the new lease was signed at the end of last year, the Parish Council has earmarked £15,000 to spend on refurbishment and improvements to the facility.

Chair of the Beacon

Hall Managers' Committee,

Councillor Jo Davis, said: "Beacon Hall is a well-used community asset. It plays a valuable role in the village and is host to many different regular classes, bigger events such as Party in the Park and important community activities such as the NHS Blood Donor sessions.

"The new Management Committee will be working hard over the next year to

ensure that our hall is made even more accessible and easy-to-use for those who want to hire it."

The venue is used almost daily for a range of activities, including lunch clubs, cheerleading, fitness classes and a drama group.

Recent enhancements

include new flooring and

furniture for the lounge, a pull-down projector screen and other audio-visual equipment for presentations and conferences, together with the installation of a brand-new baby-changing unit.

Upcoming plans include a new central heating system and new outdoor lighting.

Cllr Karen Walker, Vice-Chair of the Management Committee, added: "With a large number of children and families using our centre, the addition of a new baby changing unit has been a big hit.

"If residents or users of the hall have any other suggestions for the Management Committee, we'd be more than happy to hear them."
