The return of the Carnival Royalty Circuit with an event at Peasedown St John last Friday saw the enoblement of a Prince and Princess for the Parish at the Beacon Hall.
Against the backdrop of the Carnival Glitter stage, Bethany Lowe aged six became Peasedown St John’s Carnival Princess and her brother, Joseph Lowe, aged five as Prince.
Entrants were asked a series of questions, ranging from their interests to their favourite charities. The judging panel, as ever, had a difficult job, due to the high standard and number of entries with Bethany and Joseph coming out on top in the points system. The two winners, as well as representing Peasedown St John on Carnival night in Midsomer Norton on Monday, 16th November will in the meantime go forward to the Grand Final on Friday, 16th October at Midsomer Norton Town Hall.
The next event is this coming Friday, 25th September at 6.30 p.m. at the Victoria Hall. Sue Hill, Director of Sue Hill Dance Limited and Victoria Hall said: “We are very happy to be hosting the event at the Victoria Hall on Friday. Radstock will have the opportunity to appoint its own ‘Royalty’ for this year’s Midsomer Norton and District Carnival and we are delighted to be working with the Carnival Committee in Midsomer Norton and adding our support to the event which is a highlight in the local area in November.”
Entry to the competition to become Carnival Queen, King, Prince and Princess for Radstock for the next twelve months is free. Just come along on Friday evening to the Victoria Hall and there will be two age entry categories: 5–9 years for Prince/Princess and 10–18 years for King/Queen. On arrival, entrants will be asked to complete a form (with a parent/guardian if under sixteen) and will be given a number to be called up and answer three questions relating to why they would make a good member of Carnival Royalty for Radstock. A panel of judges will select the four winners and at the end of the evening these will be announced.
The next heat will be to select Clutton Carnival Royalty with an event being hosted at Clutton Village Hall, Venus Lane, Clutton on Friday, 2nd October at 6.30 p.m. and which is open to anyone who lives in Clutton Parish. Westfield will then follow on Friday, 9th October at 6.30 p.m. at Westfield Social Club.
Meanwhile plans continue apace to prepare for Carnival with volunteers working hard to get everything ready for the night to welcome Carnival Clubs to Midsomer Norton from across the County Circuit. The big names in Carnival are coming along as last year, with Gemini and Eclipse from Chard and Huckyduck of Coleford all amongst those already signed up to attend.
