Local resettlement charity, PEOPLE, launched its very own book club last week, thanks to the idea of volunteer and chief librarian, Robin Price.

Robin, a great lover of books and the written word, approached founder, Dr Jenny Clifford, to see if some of the charity shop’s collection of books could be put to use. PEOPLE has a large charity shop at the top of Midsomer Norton High Street and

another base in Radstock on The Street.

Thriller novel writer, Cally Taylor, from Knowle, was the first guest author invited along to the launch of the new Star Books group, which will meet every other Wednesday at 7 p.m. for a light and cheerful get-together to discuss more about a chosen book.

Everyone is welcome and the charity hopes that this will become a regular social event.

Cally spoke to fellow novel enthusiasts about her writing process and her journey to

becoming a published author, her travels and research. The novelist, who is working on her fourth thriller, due next April, brought along copies of books to sign, two of which have become Sunday Times Bestsellers. The importance of books and libraries was also discussed, as opposed to reading from a screen. Speaking at the launch, she said: “When I received the invite from PEOPLE, I immediately said ‘yes’. I wholeheartedly support the work of this charity and hope the book group is a huge

success, which will encourage a love of reading and books.”

PEOPLE volunteer and organiser, Robin Price, said: “I love books – they change lives, entertain and illuminate. It’s not all about theinternet and computers, but writers are nothing without readers.”
