Two consecutive sunny Thursday evenings were a bonus for Norton Radstock Photographic Society members, as the summer break from traditional club nights kicks off, and visits to interesting venues with photography in mind becomes the focus.

Friday, 5th May saw the group gather in Frome to take advantage of the

opportunities afforded by this medieval market town, with its quirky streets and winding riverside.

The church and churchyard attracted many hoping for inspiration to gather

appropriate material to present in November’s focus evening. The riverside proved equally popular in the beautiful evening light, and members found much to photograph reflected there.

The first meeting in June did not disappoint either. With a bright, sunny evening and only a light breeze to ruffle the subjects, members headed for Mead Gardens Nursery, situated just outside Frome, near Rudge, and enjoyed the hospitality afforded by owner, Steve Lewis-Dale.

Although a few stalwart members were not able to attend, it was a really good turnout, boosted by five members of the Frome Selwood Camera Club, who joined us for the evening.

Steve’s Nursery is well stocked and beautifully planted, with a range of beds and borders to delight and intrigue those with an eye for colour, texture and form.

A number of welcome benches strategically placed allowed members to pause, enjoy the tranquillity,

exchange notes, and wonder at the persistent call of a nearby cock pheasant. Members practised their close-up skills and enjoyed the quality of the evening light that changed regularly as clouds passed and the sun sank lower. We really were reluctant to leave, and only did so having enjoyed the light refreshments provided by our knowledgeable host, whom we warmly thanked. A very enjoyable outing!

On Thursday, 8th June (election day), the club is heading for an evening photoshoot at Nunney, and on 15th June, will meet at 6.30 p.m. for all that The Burcott Mill can offer. Jenny Short
