Radstock Town Council has unanimously objected to plans to turn Hope House Surgery into eight flats.

The Surgery is due to relocate to purpose-built premises in Waterloo Road later this year and Councillors said that they had hoped for the vacant building to house a maximum of six flats with ample parking.

Chair of the planning committee, Bruce Shearn, proposed that the application be refused due to over-development without enough parking. Cllr Nick Toogood added that he hoped the proposed development could be made more environmentally friendly, given the Town Council had declared a Climate Emergency.

Cllr Chris Dando echoed this and said that whilst he didn’t object to the principle of housing on this site specifically, he wanted to see an improvement in the environmental credentials of the building.
