Curo, the housing association and developer, has been granted full planning permission by Bath and North East Somerset Council to regenerate a former housing site in Radstock to create 32 “much-needed” affordable homes.

Curo will redevelop the site of Walnut Buildings into a modern, high-quality scheme that will comprise 100% affordable housing. The scheme will include a mix of 1- and 2-bedroom apartments, alongside 2- and 3- bedroom houses to cater to the wide range of housing needs in Radstock. These homes will be maintained in perpetuity by Curo’s management teams to provide long-term benefits to the local community.

More than half of the new homes - 17 of the 32 - will be available for social rent for people on Bath & North East Somerset Council’s housing list. The remaining 15 will be sold through the Shared Ownership scheme to support first-time buyers.

The designs for these homes ensure sustainability, open space and energy efficiency will be kept at the heart of the new development. The new homes at Walnut Buildings will be built to high environmental standards, creating far lower levels of CO2 emissions when compared to existing building regulations requirements.

As part of the Walnut Buildings redevelopment, Curo has committed to utilising energy-efficient building materials and advanced low-carbon technologies such as air source heat pumps and photovoltaic solar panels.

Electric vehicle charging points will also be available to some residents - and each home will have at least one parking space, providing considerably more parking than the previous Walnut Buildings estate provided.

“Curo is dedicated to investing in the improvement of our housing stock.

“The regeneration of Walnut Buildings signifies our commitment to providing residents with high quality, contemporary homes” says Sarah Maylor, Director of Development at Curo.
