Planning is well ahead of schedule for the Remembrance Weekend of 13th – 14th November 2021.
The Midsomer Norton and Radstock branch of the Royal British Legion are preparing for the commemorations with all organisations who have requested a wreath so far having had one ordered and delivered. It is not too late for any shop, pub, club or business to request a collection box.
The Remembrance weekend will begin on Saturday, 13th November with ceremonies to honour the memory of those veterans buried in our sixteen local cemeteries which comprises a short service and the laying of a spray of poppies on each grave. Local clergy, Councils and associations along with young people have enthusiastically supported the event.
The Branch aims to have a representative at each cemetery – if you are a member and can spare an hour on the Saturday morning, please get in touch. A representative is still needed at Dunkerton, Farrington Gurney, Peasedown St John, Ston Easton and Wellow. Sunday, 14th November will see the traditional Remembrance Parade (Covid-19 allowing) at Midsomer Norton and Radstock.
The branch are also in consultation with Midsomer Norton Town Council about the concept of creating a Garden of Remembrance as a joint project. Location and size to be determined with current volunteers agreeing to look after the maintenance. More to follow.
