JULY 4 marked the one year anniversary since the general election in which Anna Sabine was elected to parliament.

Ms Sabine was elected to the newly created constituency of Frome and East Somerset, which includes the towns of Midsomer Norton and Radstock.

She is one of 72 Liberal Democrats to have won their seat in the 2024 general election, which includes other new Somerset MPs such as Sarah Dyke (Somerton and Glastonbury), Gideon Amos (Taunton and Wellington) and Rachel Gilmour (Tiverton and Minehead).

Some of the programmes that Ms Sabine has worked on over the past year includes campaigning to protect Frome Community Hospital, securing the resurfacing of the Peasedown St John cycleway, and lobbying WECA to extend the usage hours of the Diamond Bus Pass.

Reflecting on her first year, Ms Sabine said: “The past year has been a whirlwind - full of learning and adapting to the day-to-day workings of Parliament. It’s been incredibly busy, but deeply rewarding to represent the people of Frome and East Somerset every day.

“I’ve met so many brilliant individuals and community groups across the constituency who put their trust in me to be their voice. My office hears from thousands of residents, and I take each concern seriously.

“It was an honour to be elected one year ago today. I’m proud to have pushed for improvements to Frome Leisure Centre, fought to protect access to banking in Midsomer Norton, and to continue campaigning on the issues that matter most to our communities.

“This is a wonderfully diverse constituency - from the ex-mining communities of Coleford and Radstock, to the rural villages and farms of Somerset, and the independently spirited town of Frome. I’m always learning, and I will keep fighting to ensure the south west is seen and supported by this government.”
