Over 6,000 people across Bath and North East Somerset signed the successful petition to vote on whether to have an Elected Mayor recently. Now, a meeting will be held at the Co-working Hub, at the Guildhall, in Bath, for people to register their interest in supporting the Yes campaign in readiness for the announcement of the date of the referendum.

Philip Raby, Chairman of the Mayor for B&NES committee, said: “We are expecting the announcement of the date soon and then things will move quickly, so we are asking our supporters to come and find out how they can help.”

Over the next few months, the arguments will be played out. The campaigners assert that a strong, clear voice for Bath and North East Somerset is essential, due to central government devolving money and powers to the West of England. They say an Elected Mayor can ensure strong representation for the region, ensuring that it does not become ‘Greater Bristol’.

“Our world class place needs and deserves the best leader available, of any political party or none. The people of B&NES are more than capable of deciding who that should be,” claims Philip Raby.

The meeting for the Yes campaign under the banner, ‘Your Choice, Your Mayor’, will be at the Co-working Hub, The Guildhall, Bath, on 9th December from

6.30 p.m. – 7.30 p.m. All are welcome. To register your interest, email: [email protected] or visit: www.mayorforbanes.org
