Cllr Rupert Bevan is set to continue as Radstock’s Mayor for another year after Councillors voted 5–4 in his favour.

Writhlington Councillor, Nick Toogood, will become Deputy Mayor, having just lost out on the top seat, having put himself forward for the role. Cllr Toogood said he was ready after years of experience but took the decision in great spirit, saying: “At the end of the day, we are working together for the good of the town”

Cllr Liz Derl-Davis congratulated Cllr Bevan on his continuation, saying: “Rupert has been a brilliant representative for Radstock and it is nice to see him continue.”

The Mayor added: “Let’s hope great things can happen this year. I’m sure they will.”

Councillors discussed committee switch-arounds and who would sit on which panel, with representatives to outside bodies to be revisited post Covid when groups are meeting once again.

Councillors will discuss any urgent business around the Miners’ Wheel, outside, if necessary, as online meetings must now cease and indoor meetings cannot take place until 21st June at the earliest.

Money is being allocated for an access gate at Southfield Recreation Ground in an effort to deter anti-social behaviour and £750 will be spent on fifty hours of weeding at the Memorial Gardens.

Traders on Fortescue Road have lobbied the Council for help after roadworks on The Street are leading residents to think the road is closed for business. Ward Councillor for Radstock, Bruce Shearn, said he had requested ‘Business as usual’ signs from B&NES Council.
