Works to create a new, safe pedestrian route
between High Littleton and Hallatrow and tackle speeding are progressing well and will be completed in the New Year, according to local Councillor, Ryan Wills.
Councillor Wills was joined by Cabinet member, Joanna Wright, to inspect one of the new footways, which is now open for use, and to receive an update on the progress of the works.
Councillor Ryan Wills (Lib Dem, High Littleton Ward) said: “Local residents have called for a safe walking route to connect High Littleton and Hallatrow for many years. I’m very pleased this scheme is moving forwards.
“Most importantly, this now means that people will have the option of walking from Hallatrow to access facilities in High Littleton.
“It’s less than a mile between the two communities, but until now Hallatrow residents have had little choice but to drive up to High Littleton to get to school, as well as to get to the shop or the park.
“I’m particularly glad that the scheme will also include filling in a missing stretch of footway on the other side of the road up to the bus stop, re-tarmacking, and the planting of a replacement hedge. The works are due to be complete by the end of February 2021.
“This project really shows the Lib Dem administration’s commitment to enabling sustainable and active travel choices, tackling speeding and air pollution, and supporting rural communities.
“As a Hallatrow resident myself, I am already enjoying the walk to up to High Littleton.”
