A popular children’s after-school club in Peasedown St John has been awarded funding to purchase new play equipment, thanks to a grant from the Peasedown Community Trust.
The SJ’s After School Club, based at St John’s Church Hall in Church Road, runs on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3.15 pm to 5.45 pm.
Sarah Carney, St John’s Church Children’s Worker, said: “We’re grateful to the Community Trust for their very generous £100 grant.
“We’ve used the funding to purchase two new children’s scooters, which have already been a big hit with those that attend the club!
“We have a maximum of fifteen children attending the club each day. Our groups are able to give parents piece of mind that their children are having a fun time, and being well looked after whilst they are at work.
“The club also supports children who need a boost to their emotional wellbeing, enabling their parents to receive some much-needed respite.”
Cllr Karen Walker, a member of the Trust, presented a cheque for £100 last week to Sarah.
Karen said: “All the research shows that investment in a child’s education and other extra-curricular activities is beneficial to them later in life.
“By taking part in play schemes and after school clubs, this hugely increases a child’s chances of having a more rewarding and fulfilling career, being in better health and achieving more in their later years.”
