Students at Norton Hill and Somervale Schools are busy getting ready for the Midsomer Arts Festival, which runs from Wednesday, 24th – Tuesday, 30th June. They are working with professional artists and makers to create original and exciting artworks, with some sixth form students even developing a sound piece that people will be able to experience as they walk through Holly Court shopping centre.
A group of GCSE students are working with a textile artist to create flags and bunting to decorate Midsomer Norton High Street and others are working with a professional photographer to create photographs of the local area that will be displayed in venues around the town.
Seventy shops in and around Midsomer Norton High Street have agreed to display students' artwork, and this will form an Arts Trail. There are many other venues around the town where work by local artists and students will be displayed, including Tesco, Sainsbury's and the Town Hall. Over forty large shovel shapes are being decorated by individual artists, art and community groups and primary and secondary school pupils and these will be sited around the town.
On Saturday, 27th June, there will be a day of performances, exhibitions and displays. Local drama and performing arts groups will perform, as well as local musicians and singers. There will be a display of paintings along the riverside on the High Street and art and craft stalls in the Hollies Gardens.
A Film Festival will be held in the Town Hall, showing feature films and students' own films and refreshments will be available throughout the day.
Midsomer Norton In Bloom will be encouraging members of the public to create flowers from recycled materials, with the aim of covering the ground in the Hollies Gardens by the end of the day.
Norton Hill and Somervale School urgently need your help collecting coloured plastic bottles for the recycled flower activity and these can be delivered to either school's reception.
