Children’s play in Peasedown St John has received a £2,400 cash boost, thanks to the Chairwoman of Bath & North East Somerset Council.
This year’s Chair, Cllr Karen Walker, was allocated funding by the Quartet Community Foundation to spend on projects and initiatives that were close to her heart. Cllr Walker (Independent, Peasedown St John) said: “When Quartet first approached me to say they had a pot of money for me to spend, on whatever I wanted, I knew straight away which local charity I was going to support!”
“The Wansdyke Play Association have been running free play sessions and activities for children in Peasedown St John for almost thirty years. My youngest son, now 25-years-old, used to love spending time with the Association’s Play Rangers learning new skills and exploring outdoor play when he was a child. They have done such valuable work over so many years to support children and families in the community, so I had no hesitation in awarding them this funding.”
Wansdyke Play Association is using the grant to fund new free stay and play sessions for pre-school children and their parents/carers, once a week in Peasedown St John.
Cllr Sarah Bevan (Independent, Peasedown St John) added: “Since we announced that this funding was coming to Peasedown there has been a lot of excitement from local parents.
“These new sessions will not only provide play for young children, but also support parents who may need advice and guidance with parenting issues and challenges.”
Wansdyke Play Association’s new Free Stay and Play sessions are held every Thursday morning from 9.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m., at St John’s Community Hall, St John’s Close, Peasedown St John, Bath BA2 8JG (next to Albert Avenue).
