RESIDENTS’ views are being sought by Radstock Town Council on a proposal to borrow £1 million from the Public Works Loan Board (PWLB).

The PWLB funding would be used for the next stage of the Trinity Hub redevelopment as phases one and two are nearing completion.

The next phase of the work will include new toilets, improved accessibility, an updated kitchen, and will enable the relocation of the community library and town council offices to Trinity Hub.

Residents, businesses, and local stakeholder groups are invited to share their feedback before councillors make a final decision on a loan.

A council spokesperson said: “The Trinity Hub redevelopment will deliver a modern, inclusive, and accessible community facility designed to serve Radstock for generations to come.

“The project will provide multi-use community space, flexible rooms for community groups and organisations and service providers, enhanced accessibility, and improved energy efficiency, a sustainable long-term base for community activities, and a permanent new home for Radstock Community Library.

“To progress the next phase, the council proposes borrowing £1 million from the Public Works Loan Board.

“The loan would contribute towards the capital costs of refurbishment and fit-out, ensuring the project can proceed without delay while spreading costs over the lifetime of the building improvements.”

If approved, the loan would be repaid over 30 years, with annual repayments built into the council’s budget planning process.

PWLB borrowing is being considered as it offers competitive fixed interest rates, repayments can be accommodated within the council’s medium-term financial plan, and alternative grant funding options are insufficient to fully-fund the works.

People can submit their comments on the idea of a loan through an online survey or by emailing [email protected], or via post to Radstock Town Council, Radstock Community Hub and Library, The Street, Radstock, BA3 3P.
