Lucy Tudor described last week’s Mystery Photograph: “Here is a photo of Radstock but quite tricky to place- It is taken from the fields above Bristol and Bath Old Road, Radstock and looks across towards Westfield.

“The chimney is part of the Wellsway Colliery site but the headgear (winding wheel) has gone so we think it dates from around 1930 after the mine closed.

“You can see the terraced cottages running along the main road through Westfield, opposite the Police Station. In the middle ground is a short terrace with gable ended properties at either end in the Welton Road area.

“The row of cottages in the foreground appear to have been demolished, as can be compared with a photo I took of the same view (right) where the white house on the right still exists, but a newer detached property is where the terraced cottages used to be.

“It would be interesting to know what readers know about those cottages - who lived there and when they were demolished.

“It seems from the Google Earth image (right) that these cottages would have been at Ham Hill off Combe End, Radstock.”
