Last Sunday, The Friends of Silver Street raised a Green Flag Award at Silver Street Nature Reserve in Midsomer Norton. The award is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

After eighteen months that have seen our parks and green spaces play a vital role for people through lockdowns as a place to relax, exercise and meet friends and family safely, the news that Silver Street has achieved the Green Flag Award is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team that make the green space a great place that everyone can enjoy.

Silver Street joins parks and green spaces as diverse as the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, Woodhouse Park in Peterlee and Chiswick Old Cemetery in London.

The meadow has now been cut, thanks to the generous grant from Midsomer Norton Town Council that paid mainly for the job with the group putting in a third of the total amount. This is why our members’ subscriptions are so important in raising funds for the general maintenance of the reserve – we thank you very much for your generosity every year.
