Residents of Midsomer Norton and surrounding areas lined the streets in the town to witness the incredible illumination taking place, thanks to the success of Midsomer Norton Illuminated Carnival.

A spokesperson for the Carnival told The Journal: “Overall, the Carnival went very well, with excellent feedback from the public and those that participated.

“The pageant cart was certainly a sight to behold as it travelled the procession route and we were very grateful to them and the rest of the entrants. We’d also like to thank all those that supported the event, especially Midsomer Norton Town Council.

“Our collection is currently approximately £6,400, which while slightly up on 2019, is certainly going to be consumed by the massive increases in costs we saw this year across the board. However, we are pleased to be able to support a number of other local charities and good causes which is the whole point of the Carnival.

“We are a small, totally voluntary registered charity that organises the Carnival around our day jobs, so absolutely every penny we raise goes into the Carnival.

“We are already fundraising for next year and people can donate directly or even join our 50 Club via our website: illuminatedcarnival.co.uk”

Supporting the Carnival, Midsomer Norton Town Council commented on the ‘spectacular return’, saying: “Midsomer Norton Town Council are pleased to have supported the Carnival with a Town Council Sponsorship Grant.

“After two years the Midsomer Norton Illuminated Carnival made a spectacular return to our streets.”

Mayor Lynda Robertson watched the parade from the High Street and loved every minute, saying: “It was brilliant to see the High Street so busy at Carnival time again. What an honour to have Jubilation, the float that took part in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Pageant parade in London this summer, in our Town.

“Our thanks to everyone who organised and took part in in this year’s Illuminated Carnival.”
