At the recent meeting of the Somer Valley Rotary Club, held at the Fromeway Inn, Radstock,
members presented Writhlington School Olympic hopeful, Corey Walkes, with £250 to help fund his training and also announced that they will help to provide ongoing financial support during his junior career.
Corey is currently recovering from injury, having spent eight weeks on crutches with a fractured bone in his foot. He is receiving physiotherapy and not back training fully, however, he has been reselected as part of the British Gymnastics Junior Elite Trampoline team and is still training at Quayside Trampoline and Gymnastics Club in Bridgwater with International Performance Coach, Sue Bramble, as well as GB training at Lilleshall National Sports Centre near Telford.
There are exciting times ahead for Team GB, as they have now secured two female and one male trampolinist spots at the 2016 Rio Olympics this summer. Corey has been highlighted as having potential to work towards representing GBR at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. We all wish you a speedy recovery, Corey!
