Eight local students from the Midsomer Norton Sixth Form travelled to St James Palace, in London, to receive their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards last week.
The group, who were both current and former Midsomer Norton Sixth Form students, were presented with their award by HRH Prince Edward at a special ceremony.
Completion of this prestigious award is challenging and, as with the earlier levels, candidates must make a considerable commitment in order to be successful. As well as undertaking two four-day expeditions, they must show that they have developed a skill, helped others and undertaken a physical activity on a regular basis. They must also attend a five-day 'Residential Activity', which is often based around self-development and working with others. The award is highly regarded by universities, employers and colleges alike, because of the broad way in which it develops individuals.
Mr Chandler, Outdoor Education Co-ordinator for the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership, said: "I am absolutely delighted these students have been successful in obtaining the award.
"Their achievement represents at least eighteen months of dedicated application at an already busy time of their lives and we are very pleased to have helped enable this."
