On Sunday 30th July Spencer Wall, who is originally from Timsbury but now lives abroad, is running twenty kilometres barefoot from Priddy to the Seven Stars pub in Timsbury.
Spencer has run barefoot for three years. This year, his efforts are in aid of Lizzie’s Soup Run.
Lizzie’s Soup Run was founded by Liz Davies, another former Timsbury resident, who has gone on to bring together a group of friendly people to distribute hot food and drinks to homeless people in Bath, three Saturday afternoons per month.
On their Saturday afternoons, volunteers regularly deliver food to around forty people, costing an estimated fifteen pounds per person. For more information about ‘Lizzie’s Soup Run’ can be found on Facebook.
Spencer’s run is scheduled to finish at the Seven Stars Pub at around 11am. He said, “I’m an avid barefoot runner! As part of visiting my family in the UK, I really wanted to challenge myself to a significant run in my home area. I also wanted to support a worthy cause. Lizzie’s Soup Run stood out as an amazing beneficiary, full of hard working volunteers doing their best to help homeless and vulnerable people in Bath.”
The family fun day at the pub starts at 10am. It has been organised to celebrate Spencer’s endeavour and raise money for the soup run. There will be a bar, BBQ, tea and cakes, live music, lots of games, activities and competitions for children.
Liz Davies said: “We are extremely grateful to Spencer for undertaking this run to raise vital funds for the group so that we can continue to provide meals for homeless people in Bath. We are excited about the fun day and would love to see as many people there as possible “
Nicky, one of the people whom the group supports said, “We really look forward to seeing Liz and her group on a Saturday. The food is great, always delicious and the soup run members always has time to chat to us and make us feel valued.”
