Congratulations to Scout Leader, Jon Stell, who completed the London Marathon on Sunday with a very respectable time of four hours, 48 minutes and 29 seconds. Thanks to his 26.2 mile effort, the leader of 1st Midsomer Norton Scouts has raised £705, and hopes to reach £1,000 by the end of this week for his cause, to repair the local Scout hall’s roof.

Speaking about his experience, Jon told The Journal: “I had been training for months and felt ready; the crowd really got me through. I’m aching a bit today, (Monday) and it all feels very surreal, but I’m really happy to be raising money for the scout hall. Thank you to all who donated.”

Midsomer Norton’s Scout Hall was rebuilt in the mid-80s when Jon was attending as a Cub.

The idea is to open up the hall to the wider community when not in use for Scouting activities. To this end, volunteers have been smartening up the hall, with fundraising to upgrade the kitchen and toilets. Next up is the roof, with an expected cost of around £8,000.
