Each term, children at Shoscombe School are given a humanities focus around which to build their learning.
Shoscombe Church School has been studying local history. The entire school will be given opportunities over the next few months to learn about local heritage, history , how our present-day town and villages have come about and the impact of this on today’s society.
The school places significant importance on locality and this is one of the drivers of the whole curriculum. Joining forces with specialists such as our local community history group, led by Stephen Clewes (Roman Baths) and Michael Gorely from Heritage Schools further enhances this learning.
School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said: “Learning about our local history and heritage is important. Shoscombe and the wider area has been shaped by settlements gone-by, over thousands of years, that have helped create the communities we see today.
“To embed local history fully into the curriculum, other subject areas are enhanced with these meaningful links. For example, in Art, children are developing their skills in sculpture through the study of Roman and Georgian sculpture and the influence of this on modern contemporary sculpture.”
