Well-known local artist and ex-Midsomer Norton Town Councillor, Simon Wellington and his wife, Jill, had to take more than their thinking-caps with them as they flew to Glasgow last Thursday to take on The Eggheads in the popular TV quiz show.

Simon and Jill, who have now moved from the area, but still visit frequently, got in touch with The Journal this week to tell us more.

"We think the show will be aired sometime in the next six months, but we haven't been told exactly when," said Simon. "We were proud to say on air that we were from Midsomer Norton and our fellow four competitors were all from Somerset.

"Last Thursday, we had to get up at 4.30 a.m. to get an early flight from Bristol to Glasgow and spend the day at the studios. We took the last flight home and arrived back at around 11.30 p.m. It was a tiring day, but very enjoyable.

"Jeremy Vine was the host of the programme and was the only one who needed lots of 'takes'! The floor manager called out for another take on a question that a teaching friend, Mark, and I had got wrong. We acted out the thought process again and deduced the correct answer, which we had already been given. So it was take three! Jeremy was not amused, but the Eggheads 'cracked up'!

"We had to sign a document not to reveal whether we won the £10,000 on offer, but I think we did Midsomer Norton proud."
