A six month project to prevent future land slips is due to start on 17th October.
The essential slope stabilisation works are taking place at Belluton Narrows on the B3130, which links Chew Magna to the A37. Because the road is so narrow, a full road closure is needed to complete the works, which are expected to continue until March 2017. While the road is closed, traffic will be diverted using the A368, south of Pensford.
The depth and angle of slope at either side of the road are very high and have led to landslips onto the road in the past, causing unplanned closures to carry out emergency repairs. A number of trees beside the carriageway are also unstable due to the ground conditions; the existing unstable trees will be removed before netting is anchored into the slope. This will enable vegetation to grow through the netting and help to bind the earth.
