The Silver Street Nature Reserve is in its winter coat and although the weather has not always been kind to us, we have managed to have several workdays on a Saturday morning, repairing damage to our pathways due to excessive rain.

On Monday morning, a small group led by David Moreton started work on the pond, making a small area deeper and piling the silt up on the far bank – we hope to plant wildflower seeds there later on. This work has been carried out to increase the biodiversity of the pond and encourage more wildlife. The first job was to remove the large amount of logs and branches that had been thrown in to the pond, a vain hope they will stay out of the water!

We are planning our programme for the coming year with several events lined up, including a Bird Song Walk, Spring Walk and a Bat Walk, as well as other events later on during the summer months.

The Friends group are always looking for new members, so why not give us a try, you don’t have to work hard and the amount of time you give is entirely up to you, for details, please phone Lucy on: 01761 411292.
