Shortly before Easter 2020, our new Vicar, Revd. Adam Pitt, joined us – and then came lockdown. So, here he was, young, eager to put his many plans into action, but could do very little, except services via Zoom. There was a couple of respites, but mainly we were in various stages of lockdown and restrictions all the year.
So, Christmas 2021 was going to be ‘special’ – and so it was! The theme for the church decoration was stars – the church was decorated with ‘stars’ of all description. Gold, silver, glass and even knitted ones! All surrounding a large wooden one, suspended from the ceiling and surrounded by fairy lights, hundreds of them.
Now we were ready for Christmas and the birth of Jesus. Our first service was a Christingle on 17th December, excited children filled the church and were each given a Christingle, (many thanks to the local Co-op in Paulton for providing the oranges), and when the lights went out and the candles on the Christingles were lit, it was a magical experience.
Next came our much loved Nine Lessons and Carols candlelit service followed by mulled wine and mince pies on Sunday, 19th.
The next event was a Nativity play on Wednesday, 22nd December. The children dressed in their favourite outfits, goodness knows what Joseph would have made of ‘Aliens’ attending the birth – but we did have a real live pony!
Midnight Mass was held at St John the Baptist, Farrington Gurney, known as the ‘church in the field.’ This was attended by over thirty people.
Finally, on Christmas morning, we held a family service where we played pass the parcel and held a quiz. Children versus adults, needless to say, the children won!
I hope you can see from the above that Holy Trinity is an active church, babies and toddler groups are also held on Friday and Monday mornings and a busy Coffee Morning on Tuesdays.
You are welcome to join us. Please see all our events and services on our website, or feel free to give the Vicar or Churchwardens a ring at any time.
