Norton Hill School students will be getting on their bikes, all in the name of charity. As part of their term of fundraising activities, Quantock House are organising a Sponsored Spinathon challenge, with students working together to collectively cycle the distance from Lands’ End to John O’Groats. That’s over 600 miles in one day!

Each student that takes part will cycle on one of Norton Hill’s new ‘Specialised’ bikes that will be attached to a Turbo Trainer in order to keep it static. Over eighty students will take part in the challenge throughout the day and hope to cycle at least 7.5 miles each.

The event will start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, 1st March and will run until 4.30 p.m. They will be raising money for the nominated charities, Brain Tumour Research and Help for Heroes.

The event will also raise awareness of active travel and healthy lifestyles and encourage students to make use of the schools’ new sports equipment. Norton Hill School recently purchased thirty new bikes from Radstock bike shop, Bike-It, through a grant from Travelwest, Bath and North East Somerset Council’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF). These bikes have been a great addition to the schools PE and outdoor education departments.

The Spinathon event on March 1st is sponsored by Sustrans, Travelwest and Bike It, who are kindly offering support to the event and helping to purchase event t-shirts for the participants.

Katherine Jubb, Head of Quantock House, said: “I am so proud of the student’s enthusiasm for this challenge. All eighty students have shown great determination to raise money for our charities and to work together to achieve our goal! We also very grateful for our sponsors, Sustrans and Bike It. It’s great to see the students get active for a good cause.”
