Valley Arts’ new Youth Theatre has been a big hit with young children from across the Chew Valley!

The performing arts charity set-up the Youth Theatre back in September, following the success of their week-long summer camp.

The Youth Theatre now has an ensemble of 33 young actors, ranging in age from seven to thirteen.

Last term, under the guidance of professional performance artists, Casey Lloyd and Laura Davies, the young performers worked on storytelling and devising, with a view to producing an end of term showcase for their parents.

Starting with the stimulus of ‘Home’, the actors explored ideas surrounding what they call home, which in turn led to discussions about the Chew Valley and in particular, the village of Moreton which lies beneath Chew Valley Lake.

In just eleven weeks, the groups worked hard and produced two highly entertaining and imaginative plays which were performed in front of parents at the final session.

“Feedback has been really positive,” commented Valley Arts’ Laura Davis. “It’s been wonderful to watch the young people create bonds and come together as a strong theatre ensemble. We can’t wait to see what next term brings!”

The new term starts on Wednesday 5th January. Sessions run from 5.45 pm – 7.15pm every Wednesday in term time, at Chew Magna

Baptist Hall and cost £10 per session, payable in advance.

A couple of places are available in the Seniors group (school years 6-8) and one place in the Juniors group (years 3-5). If you are interested, please email: [email protected] for an application form.
