AN electronic recycling organisation is giving people in the Somer Valley the opportunity to hand in their old electronics.
Donate IT will be hosting a tech amnesty at Peasedown St John Methodist Church from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, September 27.
They are an organisation based in the South West that looks to collect electronic devices that are taking up space in people’s homes and recycle them.
Donate IT look to refurbish and renew electronics handed to them so that they may be made available to people who might not be able to buy these devices.
When a device cannot be refurbished they are dismantled and look to save the parts so that they can be used again in the future.
Tech amnesties allow groups like Donate IT to collect these devices from people within the local community. When people bring in their electronic devices, Donate IT will then take them away and return as many as possible into a useable condition.
Items that can be recycled are laptops and PCs, mobile phones, tablets and iPads, digital cameras, games consoles, smart watches, cables and accessories, and Kindles. Apple devices can also be recycled, but people bringing those in must ensure iCloud lock is removed.
However, they will not be able to take in devices such as monitors, printers, mice and keyboards.
All data devices will be securely wiped to remove the data.
Donate IT also say that there will be a drop off point at The Hive Community Centre, Peasedown St John, in the future.
The tech amnesty at Peasedown will run alongside the Peasedown Repair Café, as well as the collection of some other waste items for reuse or recycling, which include hand-tools, inkjet cartridges, spectacles, Pringles tubes, cheese wrappers, biscuit and cake wrappers and bread bags.
