What an interesting and entertaining evening the Pensford Local History Group visitors had in October when Martin Elsbury came along to tell us all about the world of the Magic Lantern.

The entertainment hundreds of years ago was just as entertaining as it is today but in a completely different way. Martin had professionally put together a slideshow mimicking the bygone days of the magic lantern and also brought along with him a couple of “magic lanterns” for us to see together with some of the tricks of the trade used back in the day for special effects.

Today’s health and safety standards would never allow for a “live” magic lantern show! Martin’s talk was extremely interesting, very educational and the audience participation made for good interaction coupled with humour. Thoroughly enjoyed by all.

We look forward to welcoming Andrew Hillman on Monday, 6th November to tell us all about Lord’s Wood in Pensford. Andrew will not only enlighten us about the flora and fauna and the management practices but also tell us about the challenges faced and the many highlights the woods bring.

The meeting, which costs £3 per person and includes refreshments, starts at 7:30pm and will last roughly one hour. It will be held at Pensford Memorial Hall, BS39 4HW, where there is plenty of parking. There is no need to book.
