B&NES Council's Highways Team have not been having a good time recently. Firstly, there was the Paulton chicane, with residents demanding the £10,000 structure, causing chaos outside of Paulton Hospital, be removed (due to be reviewed). Then, there was the introduction of 20mph limits, welcomed by some, but causing a heated debate with regard to Charlton Road, in Midsomer Norton. And now, the new signage is up in Radstock as part of the regeneration works and is leaving both motorists and pedestrians scratching their heads.

Fosseway Press, in Radstock, have reported HGVs taking the left-hand turning to Frome along the small, no through lane, known as Sheepwash Bridge. The sign is actually meant for the new roundabout, which will go in on the bend opposite the old Charlton's site – it's just a little early. Eagle-eyed cyclists will notice Kilmersdon has been misspelt as 'Kilmerston' (pictured, top, far left), Norton Radstock College, according to signage, is now in the direction of Writhlington (new sign at Frome Road) and, outside the old Charlton's site, residents have been complaining that the new 30mph sign, situated in the middle of the pavement, makes pushchair and wheelchair access difficult.

A spokesperson for B&NES Council told The Journal this week: "Some new signs that had been erected for the new road layout had been uncovered – as soon as we realised, we covered them back up to avoid confusion. "The new direction close to the Sheepwash Bridge road may have been misunderstood by some drivers; because of this, we have now covered it and are reviewing it.

"We'd like to apologise for any confusion. The mis-spelling of Kilmersdon is also being corrected.

"The Highways improvement works in Radstock are on schedule for completion in May, with the upgrading of the roads and paving around The Street underway.

Resurfacing of the entire works is planned for the week commencing March 23rd."
