Writhlington students produced another excellent set of GCSE results this year. The results in Mathematics were particularly pleasing, with 75% of students achieving results at A*–C. In English, 64% of the year group passed at the higher level. The percentage of students with at least five subjects at A*/C including English and Maths was over 60%.
Almost fifty students achieved at least five A*/A grades and ninety achieved at least three A*/A grades in this year's examinations. The proportion of students succeeding in EBacc subjects also rose significantly, with many more students successfully following Modern Languages, Science and Humanities GCSE courses.
There were many highly impressive individual achievements. Amongst those students with exceptional performances were: Erin Slater – 12 A*, Megan Martin –
9 A* and 4As, Jena Bryan – 5 A* and 5 As plus two Distinctions*, Holly Francis – 4 A* and 6 As, Molly Treasure – 4 A* and 6 As, Ellie Rose Soccorsy – 4 A* and
5 As, Rosemary Cox – 3 A* and 7 As, Callum Phillips Browne – 3 A* and 6 As, Matthew Bell – 2 A*, 8 As and 2 Distinctions*, Robert Clapp – 9 A grades.
Headteacher, Mark Everett, said: "I am delighted with the success of all our students. Their dedication, commitment and hard work have been striking throughout this year and they deserved to do well.
"Most of our students are staying on to undertake their A Levels. I am especially pleased with our Maths results this year. The proportion of top grades has increased by 8% and the progress made by students of all abilities has been very impressive.
"However, I am concerned at the continued unreliability of the English GCSE grading. For the second year in a row, it has proved almost impossible to judge where the grade boundaries are going to be placed and this creates instability and a lack of confidence in the examination system."
