Local darts players are practising their shots in preparation for an unusual theatrical darts event at Victoria Hall Radstock on Sunday, 1st July.

Wassail Theatre Company are organising a pre-show darts tournament before performing their latest play, Rex the King, which tells the story of a county darts champion who ruled the world but lost it all.

Team-level darts players are invited to join the competition at 6 p.m., helping to bring the atmosphere of pub darts to the theatre as the audience arrive ready for the show at 7. 30 p.m. Anyone who enters gets a half-price ticket to stay and watch the show, and there’ll be a bundle of prizes for the winner.

Featuring live music, flying arrows and a portable dartboard, Rex the King is a theatrical tale that’s witty, uplifting and ludicrously tragic. Expect blood and sweat, tears and beers, not to mention plenty of songs and silliness.

Wassail are returning to Victoria Hall after the success of Reclaimed earlier in the year. Victoria Hall’s Programmer, Caroline Green, said: “Wassail are masters at creating surprising and unexpected performances that attract new audiences to theatre. At Reclaimed, the audience became victims of the 2014 Somerset floods, with actors wrapping them in blankets and serving them cups of tea.

“We can’t wait to have Wassail back with Rex the King and see our studio theatre turned into a village pub for the night.”

Rex the King enjoyed rave reviews from critics and audiences when it first toured around Somerset in 2017, and is now embarking on a national tour of over twenty village halls, pubs and arts venues.
