The current pandemic is unlike anything that many of us will have seen in our lifetimes, and it has pushed the country and everyone in it to their limit. We have all, no doubt, heard about the rise in the need for foodbanks, as well other alternatives for providing individuals and families with healthy food.
In January, a small team of volunteers set up a trial of the ‘Timsbury Pantry/Larder’ and it has been successfully providing non-perishable food for anyone who needs it. Since then, we have been opening on Monday and Thursday from 2 pm – 4 pm and Saturday 10 am – 12 noon.
The pantry operates on a trust basis, assuming that those who need a bit of extra support will take only what they need to feed the people of their household, or people they are collecting for. So far, the system has been welcomed and supported which the volunteer team is very grateful for.
Within the next month the pantry (to be renamed Timsbury Larder) will be moving to the South Road Methodist Church where it will be accessible 24/7. We would like to thank Somer Valley Rotary Club and the South Road Methodist Church for their support which is enabling us to make this move.
We would also like to express our enormous thanks to our volunteers and to Timsbury YMCA for allowing us to use their front porch three times a week.
If you would like to donate (non-perishable food, toiletries and cleaning products are accepted) or to become a volunteer, please email us at: [email protected].
