Back in October, a group of four-year-olds appeared on the front page of The Journal to raise awareness of a sponsored bike ride they were doing to raise funds for Blood Bikes NICU support.

The toddlers have now collected the last of their sponsorship money and have raised a grand total of £1,100 for Blood Bikes NICU Support.

Blood Bikes is a voluntary organisation that helps deliver organs and blood to hospitals at any hour of the day. The NICU branch delivers breast milk to premature babies, as well as providing a transportation service so parents can spend time with their hospitalised children.

Ruth Wilkinson, mother of one of the participants, said: "We're delighted with the children's achievements and would like to thank all our sponsors for their kindness and generosity. Blood Bikes NICU Support provided an invaluable service for our friends, Debbie and Gareth, and their twin daughters and it's been great for our children that they were able to take to their bikes, have some fun and raise such a fantastic amount to help us say thank you."
