The very first free Children’s Cinema Night hosted by Midsomer Norton Town Council took place on Thursday, 12th December.

The evening was for the young people of Midsomer Norton, aged between twelve and sixteen years, and was held in the Assembly Room in the Town Hall.

A poll for the choice of film to be shown was carried out by Off the Record, and the film selected was the 2003 Christmas film, ‘Elf’.

The doors opened at 6 p.m. and staff and volunteers welcomed 22 children in. As this was the first year of running the event, the Town Council were not too sure what to expect, numbers wise!

Before the film began, all of the young people were given a drink, some popcorn and a tub of ice-cream to enjoy, while watching Will Ferrell as Buddy the Elf! As everyone took their seats, the lights went down and the film began. After the film had finished, the evening was rounded off with all of the children being given a Christmas selection box to take away with them. All the young people behaved brilliantly throughout the evening.

We received some wonderful comments from parents via email after the event, with one local resident saying: “Thanks to everyone involved for arranging the movie night. My daughter had such a lovely time, and said how kind everyone was to them and what a lovely surprise all the goodies they were given were.

“I thought it was such a lovely gesture by the Council and wanted to express my thanks for arranging it.”

Midsomer Norton Town Council would like to thank all of the children that came, and their parents for bringing them. We hope they all enjoyed themselves!
