The day of Remembrance to honour the ultimate sacrifice took place in towns and villages across the local area.

Fine weather guaranteed a good turnout for the Remembrance Parade in Midsomer Norton, and with 40+ wreaths laid on behalf of local groups, a successful day was assured. Radstock also had an excellent turnout, however, the Branch was well aware of the other locations who held a small service and laid wreaths.

We tend to gather on Remembrance Sunday to remember those soldiers who gave their lives in the service of their country, but we must not forget those who came back but suffer daily from physical and mental injuries.

The Branch would like to thank all of those organisations and individuals who played a part to ensure the success of the day. We have decided not to try and list each person, group or individual as we will almost certainly miss someone out. But without your support and effort, the day would not have been as successful at it was. There was one group who do deserve a special mention, and that is the general public who turned up. Without you, the parade and ceremony would still go ahead, but to see and feel the support so freely given by the public shows the strength of feeling the country has to our armed forces.

Across the area residents and community groups have been

playing their part.

In some of the local villages you may have seen crocheted poppies – in Peasedown St John, the display by the WI travelled around the village, with collections held in each location in support of the Poppy Appeal. Readers may have spotted the ‘Ghost Buglers’ at local gateways, which have been created by local branch Chairman, Martin Feeney. Money raised at the branch’s stall at the Midsomer Norton Farmers’ Market raised £525.53. Poppy Appeal totals to follow.
