The Track Gang of the Somerset and Dorset Railway Heritage Trust in Midsomer Norton are hard at work putting the finishing touches to the railway’s latest extension.

Alan Price, Trustee, said: “The latest half a mile of track includes a ‘hunt crossing’ – one of several specifically designed in railway days to allow local fox hunts to cross the tracks. The Duchy of Cornwall Estates, from whom the land is leased, have asked for this one to be reinstated for agricultural access.

The track gang have put in a lot of extra time to get the line ready for the S&D’s next exciting event. They are welcoming a visiting ‘Jinty’ 0-6-0 tank engine which will be hauling trains along the line beside the railway’s resident Sentinel loco at the Steam Gala in March.

The station is opening to visitors to ride the trains on Sunday, 18th March, as well as various special events.

Following the last successful Real Ale Train, the railway is running another event on Saturday, 17th March.
