The Victoria Hall will now be giving audiences the full cinema and theatre experience with new tiered seating and film screen, plus high quality surround sound, thanks to funding from Big Local, Sue Hill Dance Ltd and Ward Councillor, Deidre Horstmann.
Theatre and film screenings will move into the venue’s 150 seater VH studio theatre in May, thanks to funding from Radstock and Westfield Big Local through the Local Trust, Sue Hill Dance Ltd and B&NES Councillor Deidre Horstmann’s Ward Initiative Fund. With custom fitted tiered seating, upholstered seats and a larger screen, everyone will now have a good view and comfy seat, no matter where they sit.
Saturday, 7th May sees the first event of the spring season in the newly refurbished theatre – an evening of ballet Variations of Pointe, performed by German ballet company, JSLN Dance. “It’s fantastic to be able to programme dance now thanks to the raked seating,” enthuses Victoria Hall’s Artistic Director, George Hill, “and we’re delighted to welcome JSLN as part of their international tour. This will be a wonderful opportunity for all our ballet students and local families to see professional dancers in action.”
To launch the new cinema experience, the Victoria Hall will be holding a Radstock Film Festival from Friday, 13th May to Sunday, 15th May, with four top recently released films: Friday, 13th May, 7 p.m., Bridge of Spies (12A), Saturday, 14th May, 4.30 p.m., Bill (The Horrible Histories) (PG), Saturday, 14th May, 7.30 p.m. The Danish Girl (15) and Sunday, 15th May, 4 p.m., Dad’s Army (PG).
The venue’s Spring/Summer events programme also includes acoustic music sessions, a gypsy swing band, a community opera, comedy improvisation, family theatre, a musical comedy cabaret show and performances by resident BDC students. The Victoria Hall is also seeking volunteers to help with ticket selling and ushering, in exchange for a free ticket. They are also looking for people to support the cinema by training as film projectionists or helping to select next season’s films. Please email: [email protected] if you are interested.
