The Chilcompton Society Flower Show was a great success following a two year break. Wonderful sunshine brought forward many entries from villagers, with vegetables, flowers and cookery classes doing particularly well, making the judges’ task more difficult. There were less children’s entries than in previous years, so it is hoped many more will enter next year.

Numerous visitors came along to enjoy the exhibits, have a cup of tea and chat to friends, whom they might not have seen for some time.

Organiser, David Rogers, said that the judges praised the standard of entries; he added that committee members were pleased the event went so well.

Results: Vegetable, Flower and Gardening Club Cups were all won by Rosemary Blatchford, who was also overall winner of the show. Cookery: Jane Kerton, Hobbies: Julie Foxwell. Mens’ Open: Martin Stevens and Calvin Winwood. Arthur Hambly Award: Martin Stevens. Stratton Cup: Barbara Jones. Family Cup: Josie and Bert Boxall. Newcomers’ Cup: Sue Anderson.
