A PRIMARY school is teeing students up for success through a new partnership with its local golf club.

Welton Primary School has successfully driven a new dimension into its curriculum through an exciting partnership with Mendip Golf Club.

The collaboration saw Year 5 students engage in a comprehensive seven-week program designed to introduce them to the fundamentals of the sport. The lessons were brought directly to the school grounds, with Tom Snelling, a PGA Professional, delivering expert coaching.

The program recently culminated in an exciting trip for the Year 5 class to the beautiful Mendip Golf Club itself.

The children spent the afternoon experiencing a real golf club environment, trying out their newly acquired skills on the putting green and getting a thrilling taste of power at the driving range.

Phil Lyle, head of school at Welton Primary, emphasised the broader benefits of the initiative: "Golf demands concentration and commitment, and seeing the children embrace the challenge and learn from their mistakes has been incredibly rewarding. We are giving them a new experience that teaches valuable life lessons."

Mr Snelling, the PGA Professional who has been teaching the students, spoke enthusiastically about the project’s potential impact.

"It's a privilege to work with Welton Primary and see the enthusiasm the children have for golf," he commented. "My goal is to inspire future golfers and show them that this sport is accessible to everyone. Creating these partnerships between Mendip Golf Club and local primary schools is vital for the future of the game and for the community. We want children to feel comfortable stepping onto a golf course and see it as a place where they can learn, grow, and have fun."

The school is now looking to expand the initiative, ensuring that all children from Reception to Year 6 will have the opportunity to experience golf throughout the academic year.
