Endurance sports enthusiast, Clare Timbrell, is taking on one of her biggest challenges to date.

By day, she is a Finance Director at Writhlington School, but by night, Clare trains tirelessly to compete in endurance challenges, including numerous marathons, the L’Etape Wales Dragon race and her biggest yet, Iron Man.

A novice cyclist, runner and swimmer, Clare trains with a personal coach, who mentors her training schedule and diet to help make sure she is peak physical condition for the challenge.

Clare commented: “It all started when I decided to train for a Half Marathon – at the time, I thought that was the hardest thing I had ever done, but when you start, you find the adrenaline overtakes you and suddenly you have signed up to a triathlon.

“My work colleagues thought I was a little bonkers; I couldn’t ride a bike more than ten miles and only along the flat, and I was not the most confident of swimmers, but, here I am, Triathlon complete and now I am training for the hardest thing I think I will ever do, an Iron Man!

Clare trains six days a week twice a day. A typical training week consists of seven miles of swimming, 200 miles cycling and 25 miles running.

It’s not just a personal challenge for Clare – she will also be raising money for the National Exotic Hedgehog Rescue charity, a charity close to Clare’s heart after adopting and rehabilitating hedgehogs for over seven years.

Clare commented: “The charity does amazing work, and I am really proud to be fundraising for them. The race consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, 26.2 mile run, and I will be competing against professionals, but I am so excited and I hope I can do the Hedgehogs proud!”
