Writhlington School have taken steps to reduce their carbon footprint by a massive forty tons of CO2 per year through the introduction of a large-scale solar energy system.

The 450 panel system produces enough solar generated electricity to power over forty domestic households. Furthermore, the cell panels have been specifically selected for the ability to show a trade supply chain that is free of any involvement in forced labour throughout China.

The project has been led by Bath & West Community Energy (BWCE), a not for profit Community Benefit Society, whose focus is on developing clean local energy projects that actively involve and benefit communities in Bath and the surrounding area.

BWCE’s surplus income is donated to local community projects to reduce carbon emissions and address fuel poverty.

Keith Howard, Headteacher, explains: “In a time where climate concerns are ever growing we are pleased that we have the opportunity to take steps toward reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. We have worked closely with BWCE to develop a renewable energy package that benefits the school and wider community.”
