Now playing off 23, Henry has played three events recently on the British Junior Golf Tour at Dainton Park in Devon, Witney Lakes in Oxfordshire and Cumberwell Park in Wiltshire, winning the net prize in all three events. The annual running of the Burnell Cup saw 130 entrants. However, the top 17 all beat par. Winning the cup with 42 points was Paul Drew with Matthew Blackmore second with 41 and in third place was Richard Gumbleton with 40 being the best of five players with that score.

Mendip’s Avalon A Team visited Stockwood Vale and went down 1-4, not a fair reflection with three matches lost, one down. Mendip’s win came from a strong performance by Matt Lambert/Phil Leadbeater.

Mendip visited Enmore Park in the first round of the Somerset Rose Bowl and gained an excellent victory 3-2. Wins came from Tom Small/Dan Allen, Tom Chapman/Rob Cook and Michal Rokitowski/Malcolm Srawley. The nest round sees them home to Bath.

Nearest the Pin this week was won by Tom Small with Charles Roberts second and Terry Carter third.

Seventeen pairs played in the Ladies Coronation Foursomes event which saw a win for a very much inform Ann Padley playing with Pauline Williams who scored 36 points with Libby Bellew and Jinhee Page second with 35 after count back Carol Curtis/Chris Down. The Ladies Alliance A Team completed a comprehensive win over local rivals Wells with wins for Aimee Sawyer, Lynne Vowles, Marian Speed, Fran Davies, Elaine P Richardson and Edwina Willis with Jinhee Page halving her match.

Mendip’s Mixed team commenced their season with a 10 pairs a side match against Farrington. A close result with Mendip winning 5½-4½. Wins came from Allison and Peter Rumming, Clive Copp and Pippa Brown, Tony and Louise Scott and Mike and Julia Phillips with halves obtained by Simon and Chris Atkinson, Rob and Elaine Richardson and Alan and Pauline Williams.

Ladies Captain Elect Aimee Sawyer was competing in her first 36 hole event since her terrible accident in 2020 and did very well to finish in the Top 10. Best result came from 16-year-old Ellen Reakes who finished in fifth place with 12-year-old Ffion Richardson finishing in fourteenth place – well done girls.

Ninety nine Seniors competed in the Memorial Trophy event. With the course presented in very good order, scores were high with a third of the field matching or beating par. Winning with 40 points after a quadruple tie was Ian Hall with Nigel Cheshire second, Andy Humphries third and Steve Regler fourth. The Veteran’s prize went to Alan Evans Jones with 39 after count back from John Hargraves.

The Seniors friendly team entertained Kingsdown and won 3½-2½ and followed that up with a 5-1 victory over visitors Worlebury. Tony Williams
