Neil Martin cleared a fierce drive by Bassett winger Bailey Gallagher whilst for Rovers Kyle Tooze tricky run saw home keeper Matt Crowder hold from a Paulo Borges attempt.
The hosts went ahead on twenty three minutes as Martin was adjudged to have fouled Matt Bennett. Chris Taylor’s spot kick was parried by Aaron Sainsbury and Tom Ouldridge followed up to score.
Four minutes later, Paulton levelled after good work by Tooze, his pass was driven home by Ed Butcher who could have had another goal a minute later.
The second half saw end to end play with little outcome until on sixty four minutes Tooze took a pass from Butcher and his effort was turned from a corner. Taken on the right by left back Nuno Felix, centre back Mike Ilea rose unmarked to head home.
Five minutes later it was 3-1 to Rovers in a repeat corner by Felix which fell to Ilea who tapped home in only his second first team appearance.
Basset pulled one back on seventy minutes as Alfie Pressley’s cross was tapped home by sub Luke Whelan.
Tooze had a great chance held by Crowder, before in the eighty nine minutes Paulton made it 4-2.
Felix’s corner from the right was headed home by sub Dave O’Hare with Ilea in close contention.
There was time for a first debut for 17-year-old Paulton born Charlie Mclachlan, a proud moment for his watching family.
Star man of the match - Mike Ilea (Paulton Rovers).
