Norton Rugby Club First Team's win last week was reported in the press to have sent shockwaves around the league. To help continue the team's winning way, their Captain spurned the chance to watch England at Twickenham to lead his team against Forest of Dean side, Berry Hill.

The visitors won the toss and decided to play uphill into a very strong wind. From the kick-off, the home side failed to take advantage of the elements and kicked the ball directly into touch, which allowed Berry Hill to have the first scrummage on halfway.

They were unable to capitalise though and Norton soon won control of the ball and pinned the visitors down in the corner, but due to a couple of lost line-outs, were initially unable to turn pressure into points before Ben Moon broke the deadlock and kicked through the strong wind to score a penalty.

Berry Hill's big forwards started to put pressure on Norton's line and from a series of pick and drives, scored a try to take the lead.

Norton re-took the lead soon after through a try by flanker, Matthew Denning. Lock, Ty Moss, made the break in open play and off-loaded the ball, allowing his Captain to crash over.

Centre, Sam Prentice, showed his speed when picking up the ball deep in his own half. He outstripped the defence, only to be stopped in the opposition twenty-two. This set up a good attacking platform and after a period of pressure, Norton scored their second try through a driving maul with hooker, Gareth Williams, grounding the ball.

Berry Hill fought back against the elements and again pressurised the Norton line and after a sustained period of pressure, scored a try from a driving maul. The home side went into the break with a slim lead, 13–10.

The second half started with neither side being distracted by the arrival of the Fire Brigade after the strong wind felled a tree on the club's southern boundary, also bringing down power cables.

Norton now had to contend with the elements and used their forwards and centre, Robbie Fuller, to carry ball into the wind. As the game went on, the home team's fitness started to show through and the forwards started to dominate all parts of the game.

Winning a line-out, Norton set up a driving maul and made progress towards Berry Hill's line, with the defence splintering off, the only way it could be stopped was illegally. The referee had no hesitation in penalising the visitors and awarding a penalty try.

Norton realised that they had to keep the ball in hand as some misguided kicks gave possession away and allowed Berry Hill opportunities to attack.

Prentice again broke out of Norton's half and from the ruck, Moon popped the ball to Denning, who offloaded the ball close to the line to winger, Lee Withers, who scored in the corner, making the final score 25–13.
